accidental stalker.

so...i received THIS in the mail last week:
"your request for an additional year of subscription or gift subscription at this time would exceed our systems maximum number of allowed issues"

apparently, i have exceed the number of years that i am ALLOWED to subscribe to house beautiful.
so what if my subscription is good until may 2018?
shouldn't they take that as a compliment??
gheesh.

it kinda made me feel like a creepy stalker.
("um. thanks for subscribing to our magazine, but could you please stop?")

but thank you for the $14 refund... i'm going to take it and max out my
OTHER subscriptions.
i'm such a BAD girl!
i like to live on the EDGE...the EDGE, i tell ya!!!
mu--ahhhhh haa haa ha!!
(that was an evil laugh, just in case you didn't know.)

do you think magazines should limit the number of years you can subscribe?
i guess they are doing it because they want to be able to raise the price in the future?
that's my only guess.
just wondering what  you all think...

  1. How weird?!?!?!!! Hope someone has some kind of insight about how all of this works because this just doesn't make sense to me.

  2. Huh? That is so strange. I was not aware that there was a maximum that you could reach. Shouldn't they be sending you a complimentary year for being such a loyal subscriber? So weird.

  4. Wow. I am stunned. That falls a bit on the side of ridiculous. Take it elsewhere!

  5. I wonder if it's finance related and they are opting to keep subscriptions to a specific future date to avoid issuing a multitude of subscription refunds should the magazine be discontinued(?). Maybe not...I've never subscribed to a anything that's "gone under".

  6. This is soooo funny and weird at the same time! Are you on twitter? You should totally tweet them this post. I bet they would reach out to you. The HB team are so gracious, you may even get a note from Newell Turner himself!

    1. alas, i am NOT on twitter. i am totally stalling getting on twitter. i don't know why--i guess i feel like it is ONE MORE thing to take care of and update and keep track of. and right now, i have enough of those things in my life.

  7. Hilarious. I've gotten into trouble in the past, actually, with many-years subscriptions to magazines that folded. So now, because my Domino subscription was rolled over into Cookie and then into Lucky, every month I wonder why I get Lucky magazine, and then remember: I was an over eager Domino enthusiast who subscribed to the max.

So maybe this is a good thing? Though I, too, would subscribe for as many years of House Beautiful as they would possibly allow.

    1. HA! the same thing happened to me...i think it was south accents that trasnferred my subscription to "wine spectator". totally not even in the same genre of periodicals, and i don't even drink. it went straight into the trash every month.

  8. This was so funny I read it out loud to my husband. For some reason he did not think it as entertaining as I did.

I just want you to know I'm googling all kinds of images for our new addition and THREE times practically in a ROW, the images I like best have brought me to your blog. Thank you for the inspiration.

    Clearly, you have fabulous taste.

  10. That's beyond funny! Seems like every time I renew my subscription to Better Homes & Gardens for 2 years...I get another offer in the mail the very next month asking me to renew for another 2 years. I always end up having at least 3-4 years "on the books"...lol

  11. This is too funny! YOu should frame that check instead of cashing it. I think it will be worth something in the future!!!! LOL!

  12. I get the opposite...I feel like they (all magazines) as me to renew two months after my last renewal. :)
    Have a great weekend.

  13. It could be that they have to put your subscription payment into a reserve if it is for three or four years out. Maybe they had too much in the reserve. These publishers are in big trouble these days. I've cancelled or not renewed then I get offers for two magazines, like Country Living and House Beautiful. Both subscriptions for $10 for one year. I was offered New York Magazine which has about 48 issues a year for $30. Not too bad, then I could get a gift subscription for another $5. I ended up giving a few gift subscriptions and sending a subscription to each house that I have, so I won't miss an issue. Ann

  14. Maybe they're waiting to see how that whole "mayan calendar--doomsday calendar-thingy" works out.
then you could start subscribing again....

    LOL!
